The situation
In 2024 tap games took over Telegram. Hamster Kombat pulled in hundreds of millions of players, and the market filled up with copies just as fast: a character, a button, tap until your finger hurts. The team wanted in, but one more copy would have disappeared in a week. They needed a game people would notice and come back to.
What I did
I was the only designer and did all of it: the brand, the app icon, the game, the website and the promo.
The game got a story. You don’t just tap a character, you run a small bakery. In the default mode you press three buttons in order: bake a cookie, bring it to life as a fortune cookie character, then mint a gold coin from it. To keep it from getting boring, the mode changes. Sometimes you tap one button, sometimes you swipe, sometimes coins rain from the top and you catch them with two fingers. Players can compete with friends and join teams.
After launch I stayed on for two more months and made the ad banners for social media.
What came out of it
The game launched into one of the most crowded markets of the year and still got noticed. More than 10,000 people downloaded it in the first few weeks, and Telegram added it to Trending Apps. The team got the brand, the game, the website and the ads from one designer, so all of it looked like one product.
